Home My WebLink AboutCC Ord 1480 2001-10-08 ORDINANCE NUMBER ~ I AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A PRIMARY MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY ON TUESDAY, MARCH 5th, 2002, CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATEWIDE PRIMARY ELECTION ON SAID DATE, FOR THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN OFFICERS OF THE CITY AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH. WHEREAS, Pursuant to action of the State Legislature in 1998, the Statewide Primary Election is to be held on the first Tuesday in March in each even numbered year; and WHEREAS, In the year 2002 the Statewide Primary Election will be held on the 5th day of March; and I WHEREAS, Under the provisions of Section 501 of the Charter of the City of Seal Beach, California, a Primary Municipal Election shall be held on the last Tuesday of March in each even numbered year for the election of Municipal Officers, however by ordinance another day in the months of March or April of any even numbered year may be fixed. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That pursuant to the requirements of the Charter of the City of Seal Beach, California, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of Seal Beach, County of Orange, State of California, on Tuesday, March 5th, 2002, a Primary Municipal Election for the purpose of electing one (1) member of the City Council from Councilmanic District One for the full term of four years, one (1) member of the City Council from Councilmanic District Three for the full term of four years, and one (1) member of the City Council from Councilmanic District Five for the full term of four years. I Section 2. The Primary Municipal Election hereby called and the date hereinbefore specified shall be and is hereby ordered consolidated with the Statewide Primary Election to be held on March .~~S~, 2002. The Board of Supervisors of Orange County is hereby authorized to order the consolidation of the Primary Municipal Election hereby called with said Statewide Primary Election, and the Election Department of Orange County is hereby authorized to canvass the I returns of said Primary Municipal Elect~on, and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot, namely the ballots used at said Statewide Primary Election shall be used. Said Elections Department of Orange County shall certify the results of the canvass of the returns of said Primary Municipal Election to the City Council of said City and shall thereafter declare the results thereof. That the polls for the election shall be open , at seven o'clock (7:00) a.m. of the day of the election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock (8:00) p.m. of the same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14401 of the Elections Code of the State of California. That notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of the election, in time, form and manner as required by law. I Pursuant to Section 416 of the Charter of the City of Seal Beach, this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its ~doption. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause same to be published as required by law.
