Home My WebLink AboutCC Ord 1400 1995-11-13 I I I WHEREAS , WHEREAS, ORDINANCE NUMBER ~ AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A PRIMARY MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY ON TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 1996, CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATEWIDE PRIMARY ELECTION ON SAID DATE, FOR THE ELECTION OF CERTAIN OFFICERS OF THE CITY AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH. Pursuant to action of the State Legislature in 1993 the California presidential Primary Election has been changed from the first Tuesday after the first Monday of June to the fourth Tuesday in March, specifically March 26 in the year 1996; and Under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Seal Beach, California, a Primary Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, March 26, 1996, for the election of Municipal Officers. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2. That pursuant to the requirements of the Charter of the city of Seal Beach, California, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of Seal Beach, County of Orange, State of California, on Tuesday, March 26, 1996, a Primary Municipal Election for the purpose of electing one (1) member of the City Council from Councilmanic District Two for the full term of four years; one (1) member of the city Council from Councilmanic District Four for the full term of four years; and a City Clerk, citywide, for the full term of four years. The Primary Municipal Election hereby called for and the date hereinbefore specified shall be and is hereby ordered consolidated with the Statewide Primary Election to be held on March 26, 1996, The election precincts, polling places, and officers of election shall be the same as those set forth in the notice calling or providing for or listing or designating the precincts, polling places and election officers in the City of Seal Beach for the Statewide Primary Election with which the Primary Municipal Election called by this Ordinance is consolidated. The Board of Supervisors of Orange County is hereby authorized to order the consolidation of the Primary Municipal Election hereby called with said Statewide Primary Election, and the Election Department of Orange- County is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said primary Municipal Election, and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot, namely the ballots used at said Statewide Primary Election shall be used, Said Elections Department of Orange County shall certify the results of the canvass of the retuzns of said Primary Municipal Election to the City Council of said city and shall thereafter declare the results thereof. That the polls for the election shall be open at seven o'clock (7:00) a.m. of the day of the election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock (8:00) p.m. of the same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14401 of the Elections Code of the state of California, That notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of the election, in time, form and manner as required by law. I Pursuant to Section 416 of the Charter of the city of Seal Beach, this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its adoption, That the city Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause same to be published as required by law.
