Subject: Naval Weapons Station Wildlife Refuge
At their last regular meeting the Recreation and Parks Commission received back-
ground material on the Wildlife refuge from Mr. Proctor Weir, Manager of the
Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Weir indicated in his presentation that
there was a very strong possiblity that public access to the Wildlife Refuge
might be gained through the Department of the Interior and the new Naval Weapons
Station command. Discussion followed and a motion was made by Commissioner Torem,
second by Commissioner Case and unanimously approved to initiate a study into
the feasibility of controlled public access into the Wildlife Refuge. The Recrea-
tion Commission will present a full report to City Council when details are
available.
