HELD JANUARY 22, 2015
I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Seal Beach 2015 Centennial Committee Workgroup Chair
Committee was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos in
the City Council Chambers, 211 8 1 Street, Seal Beach.

Nancey Kredell, Merchandise Workgroup
Michael Dobkins, History Workgroup
Deb Machen, Marketing Workgroup
Seth Eaker, Marketing Workgroup (via Skype)
Also present: Patrick Gallegos, Assistant City Manager

III. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Public Comments was opened. Scott Levitt requested the use of the Centennial logo for
marketing material for the Car Show. McKenze Treasure spoke on behalf of the
Chamber of Commerce and announced the Chamber had become a Centennial Silver
Sponsor and requests use of the Centennial logo for Chamber events during -the coming
year. Rosie Ritchie requested the use of the Centennial logo for the 2nd Annual Band on
the Sand. There being no additional speakers, Public Comments was closed.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF 12/11/14
Fundraising Workgroup Chair Scott Weir moved, Marketing Workgroup Co-Chair Deb
Machen seconded, and the motion carried unanimously, that the Committee approve the
Meeting Minutes of December 11, 2014.
V. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Staff comments
Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos inquired as to why the flyers for the Happy
100th Birthday Golf Tournament reference proceeds being donated to Parks and
Recreation. Marketing Co-Chair Nancey Kredell and Celebrations Workgroup Chair
Marc Loopesko indicated that this event is a Centennial event and only merchandise
being sold at this event is being paid for, and proceeds returned to, the Founders' Day
committee. It was also mentioned that Taste of Seal Beach will be a Centennial event.
The question arose as to the possibility of directing specific Centennial proceeds
towards park and recreation activities, specifically revenue collected through Centennial
events. No action was taken.
Acting City Clerk Tina Knapp reported that Centennial sponsorships have been
received, to-date, from:
Founders Day Committee — level of sponsorship unnamed
Lions Club of Seal Beach — Silver Sponsor
1st United Methodist Church of Seal Beach — Silver Sponsor
Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce — Silver Sponsor
Bay Town Realty — Silver Sponsor
B. Workgroup Chair reports
Marketing Co-Chair Machen provided a sneak peek look at the Centennial website that
is in development. Ms. Machen also provided a report on the activities of the Marketing
Workgroup (attached). Co-Chair Eaker expressed continued concerns about the
Centennial books size and scope. March 1st continues to be the deadline for all
content.
Celebrations Chair Loopesko provided the following updates (below and attached):
• All events are 'official centennial'events
• Each event has assigned 'event manager(s) who are responsible for all line items
and volunteers for that particular event.
• The events that require outside vendor(s) are either 'in contract', deposit paid or in
final negotiations with city managemenUattomey.
• "Joy Zone Carnival"is still open as vendors are committed that date, don't want to
do a I day event, very limited hours or have safety questions on using Main
Street. Will have full team meeting with city staff to discuss event, location
alternatives and overall structure.
• Asking marketing to include ROP ads for all major events in their marketing plans.
The overall marketing plan is very good and we need to drive as many people to
these events as possible throughout the entire year.
• Early registration for the golf tournament closes on 311.
• Golf& Tennis tourneys are now listed on the city rec site for online registration.
Registration is also available in person at the rec office or via mail in wl check to
our event managers as we are limited on entries for both events and oversight is a
must. Checks are payable to City of Seal Beach - Centennial Golf or Tennis,
• Any and all revenue from the 15 events go directly to the city.
Assistant City Manager Gallegos indicated that there will be a kick-off meeting for the
carnival event with representatives from the City and Celebrations Workgroup at a date
to be determined. He also indicated that he will let the Committee know when the
fireworks items will be agendized for the City Council.
Fundraising Workgroup Chair Weir reported on the Fundraising Workgroup's activities
and provided the documents attached.
Merchandise Workgroup Co-Chair Kredell provided a report on the Merchandise efforts
(attached).
History Workgroup Chair Michael Dobkins provided a progress report for the History
Workgroup (attached).
Assistant City Manager Gallegos indicated that media contact he receives will be
forwarded to the responsible Chair and any uncategorized requests will go to the
Marketing Workgroup. Mr. Gallegos asked that he be notified when contact is made.
C. Group discussion
The Committee provided approval to 'the City to authorize the Car Show, Chamber of
Commerce, and 2nd Annual Band on the Sand to use the Centennial logo in their
marketing efforts.
The Committee discussed providing items on which the Centennial logo appears to the
designer of the Centennial logo. Staff indicated it will provide Centennial pins to the
logo designer. Marketing affirmed that there is a Woodsnap piece, which will be
produced.
D. Determine next meeting date & time
The Committee scheduled the next meeting for Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 4-00
p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
V1. ADJOURNMENT

d. Exceptions to this may be in direct collaboration with partner
organizations (i.e. - Navy)
e. Note in the minutes, the use of the logo is to be a process
approved by Marketing and the City. To date, that protocol has
not been established as we are still functioning on a case-by-
case basis.

November 13th, 2014
Good Morning Chamber Members,
The City of Seal Beach Centennial Committee is excited to be planning a yearlong 100th birthday
celebration filled with wonderful events for this special city we live in.
There will be a Seal Beach Centennial Events Souvenir Program. The Marketing Workgroup is
planning to distribute this program to all the households in Seal Beach and also making it
available for purchase at all the events (listed on the back of this sheet) throughout the year.
There will be a commemorative Seal Beach Centennial Brick Site at the Pier as well as one in each
of the other four districts in Seal Beach.
The Fundraising Workgroup has three levels of Sponsorship Packages which include: an
advertisement in the Centennial Events Souvenir Program, Special Sized Bricks at all five sites,
VIP seating at the Fireworks Show and much more!
If you would like to learn more about how you can be a part of this once in a lifetime event, please
see the contact information at the bottom of this page.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
O
Scott Weir

Regarding sale of shirts, hats,cards
We have been selling items for over a month on the Pier. Folks are really lik ',
the products. We sell on Saturdays & some Sundays: We also
give information about upcoming events , list potential volunteers, & talk
about the history of Seal Beach.
We have a terrific crew of volunteers
all long time Seal Beach residents who are able to not only sell merchandise
but sell Seal Beach.
& direct people to various places, much as we have done in the past.
In fact, after the Seal was taken from the water that Saturday we quizzed the
lifeguards about who was coming. They said Long Beach Animal Control.
When no one appeared we quizzed them again & Elaine Layne called the
Orange County Rescue service & they came within 11112 hours. If we had not
acted, the seal would have died.
We see people coming to buy items &
then shopping or eating on Main Street. We also sold shirts and items in CPE
& other locations & will continue to do this.
Our information_ 2 pictures & articles,
have appeared in the Sun & Register.
We have also advertised on Neighbors & Facebook. We have listed phone
numbers & emails so orders can be taken.
We are very grateful to Bea Kuebler for allowing us to store the shirts
in her business.
We have a great Committee who volunteer their time.
