Ingram, City Manager FROM: Jim Basham, Director of Community Development/Community Services SUBJECT: RECOGNITION OF THE BOLSA CHICA LAND TRUST FOR 22 YEARS OF DEVOTED VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND ONGOING MISSION TO PRESERVE AND RESTORE THE BOLSA CHICA WETLANDS SUMMARY OF REQUEST: That the City Council receive and file this report and authorize the Mayor to sign the attached letter recognizing the Bolsa Chica Land Trust for 22 years of devoted volunteer service and ongoing mission to preserve and restore the Bolsa Chica wetlands. BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS: In 1992, the Bolsa Chica Land Trust was created as a 501(c) 3 California nonprofit organization with the mission to protect an estimated 50 acres of coastal nature and wetlands referred to as the Bolsa Chica wetlands. For over 22 years, the Bolsa Chica Land Trust has protected the wetlands from urban development and has expanded its membership to 5,000 volunteers, including residents from Seal Beach. The City of Seal Beach recognizes the Bolsa Chica Land Trust's 22 year history and their mission of the acquisition, preservation, and restoration of all of Bolsa Chica and the education of the public to its natural wonders and cultural significance. The work of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust has contributed to the preservation and ongoing restoration of a neighboring natural coastal resource and their projects and programs engage and educate many of our citizens. The quality of life of the citizenry of Seal Beach has been positively impacted by the mission-driven efforts of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, and the City of Seal Beach hereby endorses the Bolsa Chica Land Trust.
