SEAL BEACH 2015 CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE WORKGROUP CHAIR COMMITTEE
HELD FEBRUARY 11, 2015
I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Seal Beach 2015 Centennial Committee Workgroup Chair
Committee was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos in
the City Council Chambers, 211 8t" Street, Seal Beach.
II. ROLL CALL
Present: Marc Loopesko, Celebrations Workgroup
Scott Weir, Fundraising Workgroup
Nancey Kredell, Merchandise Workgroup
Deb Machen, Marketing Workgroup
Seth Eaker, Marketing Workgroup
Absent: Carla Watson, Merchandise Workgroup
Michael Dobkins, History Workgroup
Also present: Patrick Gallegos, Assistant City Manager
Tina Knapp, Acting City Clerk
III. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Public Comments was opened. Two speakers spoke about bricks and events in Leisure
World. There being no additional speakers, Public Comments was closed.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF 1/22/15
The Committee discussed changes to the proposed minutes. Eaker moved, Weir
seconded, and the motion carried, that the Committee approve the Meeting Minutes of
January 22, 2015, as amended.
V. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Staff comments
The Committee discussed the possibility of donating money raised by Centennial efforts
in excess of the money allocated to the Centennial by the City Council ($100,000) to
the Parks & Recreation Parks Master Plan. Recreation Manager Tim Kelsey provided a
brief review of what is in the Parks Master Plan: both hard items and programs
approved by the Recreation & Parks Commission and City Council.
Loopesko moved, Eaker seconded, and the motion carried, that net proceeds from
Centennial activities in excess of the Council allocated $100,000 be granted to Parks &
Recreation to a need identified through the Parks Master Plan.
B. Workgroup Chair reports
Marketing Co-Chair provided a report on the activities of the Marketing Workgroup
(attached).
The Committee discussed scaling down the events program depending on content and
advertising received. The Committee agreed that looking into using the "Shoreline" as
a vehicle for this effort could occur if the events program does not reach fruition. The
Committee agreed that Centennial banners could be sold after the Centennial event(s)
and other banner sizes might be of interest.
The Celebrations Workgroup provided a presentation on the carnival event and
discussed carnival components/activities (October 2015) [attached].
Fundraising Chair Weir provided an updated form for purchasing bricks (attached).
This form will be included in a future City water bill. Fundraising has been interviewed
by the "Sun" about the bricks.
C. Group discussion
Discussions were had as part of agenda item V-B.
D. Determine next meeting date & time
The Committee scheduled the next meeting for Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in
the City Council Chambers.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.

Report
I. Advertising and Public Relations
a. Request from History, Events and Sponsor chairs
i. Content is needed immediately for all platforms
b. Centennial Corner — Sun Newspaper, page 3 upper right corner
i. To begin next week
ii. All content to funnel through. Seth
c. Creating/implementing all collateral materials and PR for each
event from first to last. Have reviewed materials with
Celebrations and are awaiting bullet points.
d. Social media — Regular postings on Facebook page will begin
this week.
e. Note in the minutes, the use of the logo is to be a process
approved by Marketing and the City. To date, we are still
functioning on a case-by-case basis.
II. Website — all web issues to funnel through Deb
a. Continuing needs from committees
i. Deadline for print collateral by March 1", 2015
ii. All information from History as soon as possible. Please
note that Marketing acknowledges that History has
control over all historical content.
III. Official Guidebook (Seth leads) — concerned about size, expense
and the dwindling reality of it being a revenue neutral project. It
will almost certainly cost money to produce at this point.
a. Looking for clarity on Advertising
i. How many ads to date?
ii. How many ads expected by March I deadline?
iii. How many sponsors and what fraction of their
sponsorship is allocated to marketing beyond the
publication of the book?
b. Contingency discussion -- Shoreline

iv. City —payment method for website - ASAP
v. Events — all event information as soon as possible for all
forms of marketing shown on event marketing schedule
1. Sand Castle event — will it be part of the Beach
Party?
2. How are we going to get collaboration as a
"standard" with other organizations — like Run
Seal Beach, Chamber, Lions, etc...
vi. Any other bids for the guidebook production
1. Currently bids are $40K - $31K for the size,
volume of production and only some of the
distribution we have been talking about.
