HomeMy WebLinkAboutRPC Min 2015-02-28 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE SEAL BEACH RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION HELD FEBRUARY 25, 2015 I. CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Seal Beach Recreation & Parks Commission was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chair Sustarsic in the City Council Chambers, 211 8th Street, Seal Beach. II. ROLL CALL Present: Chair Sosenko Commissioners Bennett, Hayes, Bittner and Sustarsic Also present: Tim Kelsey, Recreation Manager III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Sustarsic moved, Commissioner Bennett seconded, and the motion carried unanimously, that the Commission approve the agenda as submitted. IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Chair Sosenko opened Oral Communications. Joe Buckam a representative of Seal Beach Swim Club stated that the club would like to be involved in the future swimming pool and to be a future tenant of any new facility. V. CONSENT CALENDAR Commissioner Sustarsic moved, Commissioner Bennett seconded, and the motion carried unanimously, that the Commission approve the Consent Calendar as amended to reflect changes in the minutes. 1. Meeting Minutes of January 28, 2015. VI. SCHEDULED MATTERS 2. Aquatics Feasibility Study Update Tim Kelsey shared an update on the aquatics feasibility study and the current status of the community outreach. He shared the up to dates scats from the website and feedback received from the public. Mr. Kelsey also reported the proposed vision statement for the project. The proposed vision statement reads "Swim Seal Beach! A Community Oriented Aquatics Center that meets the Multi- Generational Aquatic Programming Needs for Fitness, Education, Recreation, Leisure and Competition. Is Fiscally Sustainable and has Community-Wide Accessibility." Mr. Kelsey also reported that the online component of community outreach will be ongoing and changing throughout the process. Questions will be updated and changed as the project progresses. Mr. Kelsey also shared a proposed schedule of events for outreach events. He shared the outline for each event and a proposed schedule that is open to changes and modifications. Mr. Kelsey concluded his update and no reportable action was taken. VII. STAFF CONCERNS Chair Sosenko opened Staff Concerns. Tim Kelsey reported there were no staff concerns at this time. VIII. COMMISSION CONCERNS Chair Sosenko opened Commission Concerns. Commissioner Bennett commented on a palm tree that has grown into the street on 5t" Street that could possible block the stop sign from street view. Tim Kelsey reported that he would follow up with Public Works to check on the status of the tree. Commissioner Bennett also reported that there are currently 27 to 28 picnic tables on the beach. Commissioner Bennett also reported that the picnic table on the pool deck is in poor condition and should be looked at. Staff reported that the issue would be reported to the maintenance department. Commissioner Bennett reported that she visited the gardens and that it looked like some of the gardens were in poor condition. Mr. Kelsey reported that the gardens are checked regularly and that staff would be scheduling a site visit very soon to review to condition of gardens. IX. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:04 p.m. The Commission adjourned to a meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The City of Seal Beach complies with Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
