RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION HELD OCTOBER 22, 2014
I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Seal Beach Recreation & Parks Commission was called
to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Sustarsic in the City Council Chambers, 211 8th
Street, Seal Beach.
II. ROLL CALL
Present:: Chair Sustarsic
Commissioners Bennett, Powell, and Sosenko
Excused Absent: Commissioner Watson
Also present: Tim Kelsey, Recreation Manager
Ill, APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Commissioner Bennett moved, Commissioner Powell seconded, and the motion
carried unanimously, that the Commission approve the agenda as submitted.
IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Seal Beach resident Gene Caladonna presented a proposed park improvement
project that he would like see the City consider at Zoeter Park,
Bob McMann a local landscape architect who has worked on a number of projects
throughout the community spoke in favor of the project proposed by Gene
Caladonna.
V. CONSENT CALENDAR
Commissioner Sosenko moved, Commissioner Bennett seconded, and the motion
carried unanimously, that the Commission approve the Consent Calendar.

VI. SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. Addition of Two New Beach Volleyball Nets
Tim Kelsey informed the Commission that the City has received a number of
requests from residents to add new beach volleyball nets on the beach around
4th Street. Staff has assessed the area and deemed that two new nets would be
appropriate for the location.
Several Seal Beach residents spoke in favor of the addition of two new volleyball
nets. They stated that they would like to see the posts be a little longer than the
other posts on the other nets and they would like to see enough space between
the nets so that balls from other games do not interrupt play.
The commission received and filed the report with no reportable action,
VII. STAFF CONCERNS
Chair Sustarsic opened Staff Concerns. Tim Kelsey reported that the City plans to
bring a professional services contract to the City Council on December 8t" for a
preliminary site design of the Seal Beach Tennis Center. It is expected that project
will begin in the new calendar year as to not conflict with the holiday season.
VIII. COMMISSION CONCERNS
Chair Sustarsic opened Commission Concerns..
Commissioner Sustarsic reported that there was bench in Heather Park that was in
poor condition. Tim Kelsey reported that the City will bringing a memorial bench
policy to the Commission in November and that this could possibly be looked at as
a site in the policy.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. The Commission adjourned to a meeting
to be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.
