Honoring First United Methodist Church
of Seal Beach
WHEREAS, the First United Methodist Church of Seal Beach is celebrating its
100th anniversary in 2015; and
WHEREAS, the First United Methodist Church of Seal Beach has been an
integral part of the community and a source of support to its members and
residents in the community and many other communities through various
outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, August 20, 1915 a small group, said to be 13
residents, met in a converted beach bungalow at 125 6th Street that belonged
to a Mrs. Blankinship and held an organized worship service and named
themselves the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Seal Beach and became
the first organized church in the city; and
WHEREAS, on September 21, 1923 the First Methodist Episcopal Church at
Seal Beach filed Articles of Incorporate and the church was renamed First
Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, in 1926 an anonymous donor gave a $1,000 donation, which was
subsequently used to purchase two lots on the corner of 10th Street and
Central and shortly thereafter the "cottage church" bungalow was moved from
125 6th Street to its present location at 148 10th Street; and
WHEREAS, the church endured over time through name changes, war time,
construction, leadership changes, and into the new millennium; and
WHEREAS, the First United Methodist Church of Seal Beach begins its second
100 years of ministry and service to the good people of Seal Beach and beyond
in 2015.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the City of Seal Beach City
Council does hereby recognize and congratulate:

AND, BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that the City of Seal Beach City Council
does hereby offer First United Methodist Church of Seal Beach and its
congregation best wishes in the next 100 years.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby affix my signature and the seal of the City of
Seal Beach this Twenty-Eighth in the Year Two Thousand Fifteen.
