A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH SUPPORTING
AND AUTHORrZING AN APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF BOATING & WATERWAYS UNDER THE PUBLIC BEACH
RESTORA nON PROGRAM FOR THE SURFSIDE BEACH FEASIBILITY STUDY.
WHEREAS, the State of California, Department of Boating and Waterways' Public Beach Restoration
Program has been established to preserve and protect the California shoreline, restore and maintain
urgently needed recreational beaches, and to minimize the economic losses caused by natural or man-
induced beach and shoreline instability; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach desires to preserve and protect its local beaches through the
investigation of shoreline erosion prevention and public beach restoration alternatives by initiating the
joinlly funded Surfside Beach Feasibility Study with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has committed to provide 50% of the cost of the
Surfside Beach Feasibility Study; and
WHEREAS, City of Seal Beach has the authority to apply for grant funding under the California
Boating & Waterways Public Beach Restoration Program and to finance, acquire, and perform the
proposed study; and
WHEREAS, by formal action the City Council of the City of Seal Beach authorizes the application of
grant funding for the Surfside Beach Feasibility Study; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Seal Beach, hereby authorizes the City
Manager, or his designee, to execute and file an application for grant funding with the California
Department of Boating & Waterways for the Surfside Beach Feasibility Study.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach by adopting this
resolution does hereby state:
1. The City of Seal Beach fully supports the Surfside Beaeh Feasibility Study; and
2. The City of Seal Beach will provide at least 25% of non-Federal matching funds.
