SUBJECT: Local Law Enforcement Block Grant application - 2002
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
This report requests City Council approval for the Police Department to apply for 2002 Local
Law Enforcement Grant Funds.
BACKGROUND:
Commencing in 1996, each year the City has received LLEBG funds through the Bureau of
Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, Department of Justice. This funding, which
must be used to supplement projects to support crime prevention and public safety, has
previously been applied to 800 MHz projects and overtime for community policing. Pending
determination by the Chief of Police, similar use is proposed for the 2002 funds of $17,572.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A match of $1,757 would be required, which would be allocated to undesignated reserves of
the General Fund.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that approval be given to this request and that the attached Resolution be
confirmed authorizing the Police Department to apply for LLEBG funds of $17,572 from the
Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, Department of Justice.
