Director of Public Works /City Engineer SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR SEAL BEACH BLVD. BIKE LANE PROJECT, SOUTH OF WESTMINSTER AVENUE, PROJECT No. 50025 SUMMARY OF REOUEST: The proposed City Council action will approve the plans and specifications, and authorize Staff to initiate the bidding process, for the Seal Beach Boulevard Bike Lane Project, South of Westminster Avenue, Project Number 50025. BACKGROUND: This proposed project will complete the Class II bike lane on Seal Beach Blvd. between Pacific Coast Highway and Westminster Avenue by completing the curb, gutter, and paving that is missing near the old railroad crossing south of Westminster Ave. The project will remove the existing guardrail, replace the existing open concrete channel with a concrete box culvert and install curb, gutter, paving and striping in that area. The City competitively secured Measure M GMA #6 Improvements Program Funds for the project. Monies from this program may only be used for these purposes and may be forfeited if the project is not completed. FISCAL IMPACT: Measure M funds in the amount of $220,000 are currently available within the City's Capital Improvement Program budget for construction of these improvements. SUMMARY: Upon motion of the Consent Calendar, it is recommended that the City Council approve the plans and specifications, and authorize Staff to initiate the bidding process, for the Seal Beach Boulevard Bike Lane Project, South of Westminster Avenue, Project Number 50025.
