Many more children are victims of near drowning. Last year alone, there were sixteen drownings countywide and ten of those were drowning related deaths to children under the age of five. This is a countywide crisis that requires everyone's help in reducing this needless tragedy. The Orange County Fire Authority has taken a very proactive approach in reducing the number of drowning incidents in Orange County and would like to increase awareness by declaring June as "Drowning Prevention and Awareness Month." We are requesting support in this endeavor from the City of Seal Beach. Enclosed is a sample Proclamation that we would like to have included on the May 28, 2002 City Council Agenda. Please join us as partners in preparedness by declaring June as "Drowning Prevention and Awareness Month" - Together, we can make a difference.
