SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF POLICE VEHICLE
SUMMARY OF REOUEST:
The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting permission to purchase a 2002 model
year Crown Victoria marked police patrol vehicle.
BACKGROUND:
Under the 2000/01 StateCOPS (Supplemental Law Enforcement) grant, provided under
AB 3329, Chapter 134, funding of $100,000 was received.
The Police Department wishes to purchase a vehicle to be used by the officer previously
hired under this grant. Council approved expenditure for the hiring of the officer and
associated equipment at their meeting of November 13, 2000. Other officers may also
use the vehicle.
The vehicle is available from Wondries Chevrolet, under the cooperative purchase
provision of Los Angeles County Bid #207488, for $22,234.00, plus tax of $1,723 and
tire fee of $20; total $23,977.
Additionally, a quote has been obtained from Pursuit Technologies for the equipment and
the installation necessary for the vehicle. This vendor has undertaken all previous
equipping of Police units and can provide fleet uniformity. The cost is $6,635.
The vehicle will not supplant any existing vehicle in the fleet and is a supplemental
purchase
FISCAL IMPACT:
The purchase of this patrol vehicle through Los Angeles County Bid #207488 at $23,977,
all- inclusive, and equipment from Pursuit Technologies at $6,635, brings the total cost
$30,612. Funding for this purchase will be accomplished with 2000/2001 StateCOPS
grant funds, including interest earned, which must be expended by June 30, 2002.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council authorizes the purchase of an equipped 2002
Crown Victoria for a total cost of $30,612, utilizing funds remaining from the 2000/01
SLE grant.
