Director of Public Works/City Engineer SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR PURCHASE OF THREE LOW EMISSION VEHICLES. SUMMARY OF REQUEST: The proposed City Council action will approve the plans and specifications, and authorize Staff to initiate the bidding process, for the purchase of two sedan hybrid vehicles and one medium duty CNG pick -up truck. BACKGROUND: The City has received from AQMD subvention funds from the AB -2677 account and these expenditures are to be used to acquire low emission vehicles that are critical in the effort in reducing smog from our basin. The AB 2677 fund is a motor vehicle registration fee to be used "solely to reduce air pollution from motor vehicles and for related planning monitoring, enforcement, and technical studies necessary for the implementation of the California Clean Air Act of 1988. " FISCAL IMPACT: AB -2677 funds from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in the amount of $74,819.31 are currently available within the City's Air Quality Improvement Fund. These funds have to be utilized for purchasing low emission vehicles for the City of Seal Beach. SUMMARY: Upon motion of the Consent Calendar, it is recommended that the City Council approve the plans and specifications, and authorize Staff to initiate the public bidding process.
