HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem APROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Tuesday, March 12, 2002, marks the 90'" anniversary of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia; and WHEREAS, throughout its long and distinguished history, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of girls and women with the highest ideals of character, conduct and patriotism; and WHEREAS, through Girl Scouting, girls grow strong in body, mind and spirit and learn of their importance in the world and their duty to the world around them; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting is playing an active role in increasing the fitness of today's children across the country through the Girl Scouts National Sports and Fitness Initiative; and WHEREAS, more than three million current Girl Scout members nationwide celebrate 90 years of an American tradition with 50 million women who are former Girl Scouts and can be mentors to help today's girls succeed. NOW, THEREFORE, I, William Doane, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Seal Beach do hereby proclaim the week of March 10 - 16, 2002 as Girl Scout Week PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the Eleventh day of March in the year Two Thousand - Two.
