SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF LAMPSON AVENUE WALL
REMOVAL, PROJECT NO. 50088
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The proposed action will formally accept the completion of the construction contract for
the Lampson Avenue Wall Removal Project.
BACKGROUND:
This project consisted of removing 2,135 -feet of the masonry block wall and footing
along the north side of Lampson Avenue. The wall had deteriorated to a poor condition
and was a visual barrier to the open space land to the north. City staff was successful in
securing the funds for this project from the Bixby Development Agreement. With the
completion of the removal of the wall, City Staff will *explore drought tolerant
landscaping options with the remaining monies. --
On November 13, 2001, Council elected to award the project to West Coast Cutting, Inc.
In accordance with the plans and specifications, the Contractor has completed the above -
referenced project. The final contract price is $20,160.00 and is within the budget for the
project. The Contractor has been paid $18,144.00 to date and retention due to the
contractor is $2,016.00.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds were expended under the City's fiscal year 2001/2002 Capital Improvement
Program. The City received $35,000 for the wall removal from the Bixby Development
Agreement. The costs to design, construct and inspect the project were $5,000, $20,160,
and $3,000 respectively. The remaining amount, $6,840 along with the additional
$15,000 designated for landscaping will be combined and used towards landscaping the
area with low maintenance and drought tolerant landscaping.

RECOMMENDATION:
Upon motion of the consent calendar, it is recommended that the City Council:
By resolution, determine the work has been completed in accordance with the
contract documents and declare the work to be accepted and total amount of the
contract is in the sum of $ 21,160.00
Direct the City Clerk, within ten (10) days from the date of acceptance, file a
"Notice of Completion" with the Orange County Recorder.
Direct City staff, upon expiration of thirty -five (35) days from the filing of the
"Notice of Completion ", to make the retention payment to West Coast Cutting,
Inc., in the amount of $2,016.00.
