Bahorski, City Manager FROM: Ross Pounds, Interim Director Parks, Recreation and Community Services q5v 4h� col Io SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDS FOR THE URBAN RECREATIONAL AND CULTURAL CENTERS, MUSEUMS, AND FACILITIES FOR WILDLIFE EDUCATION OR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM UNDER THE SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN WATER, CLEAN AIR, AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2000 SUMMARY OF REOUEST: Council approve the resolution in support of the City's application for Urban Recreational and Cultural Centers, Museums, and Facilities for Wildlife Education or Environmental Education Program (URCC). BACKGROUND: In the year 2000, the voters in the State of California responded to the recreational and open -space needs of a growing population by approving the 2000 Bond Act. The intent of the URCC is to provide funds, on a competitive basis, to cities, counties, nonprofit organization, and federally recognized California Indian tribes to enhance, develop, and rehabilitate urban recreational and cultural centers, museums and facilities for wildlife or environmental education in urban areas throughout California. This Resolution begins the application process. The funds shall be used for the Development or rehabilitation of real property, in this case, the Old Ranch Tennis Club Recreational/Community Center. Cost estimates for renovation of the existing building are $1,228,546. In addition, a sound attenuation wall will be built and is estimated to cost �/� $300,000. The City of Seal Beach will be applying to the State for the total amount $1,528,546. The project would be scheduled for Fiscal Year 2003/2004. ' / In1N Agenda Item V FISCAL IMPACT: The URCC Grant Program does not require matching fonds therefore there is no fiscal impact. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Council approve the resolution in support of the application.
