Bahorski, City Manager FROM: Michael Sellers, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Destruction of Certain Police Records SUMMARY OF REQUEST: That Council authorize the destruction of certain police records approved by the City Attorney and identified as an exhibit to the attached resolution. BACKGROUND: On October 22, 2001, by Resolution No. 4851, Council established a Records Retention Schedule for destroying certain types of police department records that are obsolete and not required by law to be retained. Under the policy, no such record may be destroyed without the prior approval of the City Council and the written consent of the City Attorney. A list of obsolete records has now been prepared and approved by the City Attorney for destruction and is attached to the resolution as Exhibit A. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Council approve the destruction of certain police records, as approved by the City Attorney and identified as an exhibit to the attached Proposed Resolution No. which, upon adoption, authorizes destruction of said documents.
