INFORMATION ON LA SEISMIC PROJECT
WAW
Seismic Survey 2017
Project Applicant —Who We Are
o LA Seismic LLC— private geophysical
consulting company based in Long Beach, CA
o Urban seismic has been performed in over 20
local cities and has the support of USGS &
CalTech
E LA Seismic has received letters of
recommendation from Dr. Rob Clayton of
CalTech, the Water Replenishment District of
Southern California & other agencies

Project Description —What We Are Doing
o LA Seismic is proposing to perform geophysical testing to map the
Earth's subsurface for seismic research
o Data created by this project will allow for scientific studies on the
behavior of geological strata in the area; this data plays an
important role in creating a clear picture of the subsurface
o The testing is completed by using state -of- the -art trucks and
sensors (as depicted here)

Project Timeline —When We'll Be
Performing The Work
H Approximately 3 weeks (non - consecutive) in City
right -of -way
• Approx.1 week to survey and prep
• Approx.1 week to perform data collection (data collection for
entire project will take 30-45 days; nodes in Seal Beach will
remain in ground for entirety of this phase)
• Approx.1 week to pick up nodes and replace native landscape
m Days/ Times are flexible —LA Seismic will work with
local schools and City Officials to select times that are
the least impactful to Seal Beach residents
m Work to commence within the next 3 months

Project Purposes and Goals —
Why We Perform This Work
The seismic survey is extremely meaningful to
the scientific community and will help
determine:
• The impact of possible earthquakes, near surface
ruptures, and liquefaction
LA Seismic will provide the City of Seal Beach
with a liquefaction study at no cost
• The magnitude of earthquakes from faults in the
area of study
• Disaster preparedness / emergency response plans
Project Purposes and Goals —
Additional Benefits
o Provide much needed data to the Seal Beach
Naval Base
o Study micro- seismicity on the Newport -
Inglewood fault to study its behavior on how
deformation is taking place on a small scale
and how it changes with time
o Aid the Water Replenishment District in
refining models for groundwater basins to
improve fresh water storage and distribution
for Southern California

Community Outreach
LA Seismic has been, and will continue to be,
proactive in responding to any questions from the
public; our outreach includes the following:
• Maintain detailed call log and provide education to
local government agencies
• Send out brochures detailing the Project and its goals
to all residences and businesses within 600 feet of the
source route
• On the day of the source activity a team of between
10 and 15 people will canvas the area to remind and
educate residents of the work being performed
