Bahorski, City Manager V� J SUBJECT: POLICY COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS SUMMARY OF REOUEST: Designate two members of Council as members of OCTA Policy Committee. BACKGROUND: The West Orange County Cities Association completed a feasibility study of potential transit corridors, which would link west Orange County to Long Beach and Los Angeles as well as central Orange County. That effort recommended conceptual transportation corridors for follow -up work through a more detailed planning and engineering effort. In June, 2001, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors took the first step for this effort by approving a study of high - capacity transit system options for west Orange county. The study is known as the West Orange County Project Definition Study. This phase of the project will add planning and engineering details to the prior study and recommend preferred corridors and technology. To bring together elected officials to discuss and provide input on the study, OCTA will convene a Policy Committee meeting on September 27, 2001 at 6 p.m. at OCTA offices.. The first Policy Committee meeting will review the study processes and begin an early dialogue on technology options as presented on the attached draft agenda OCTA requests each city designate two members of City Council to serve on the Policy Committee. Approximately five Policy Committee meetings are expected between September 2001 and July 2002. FISCAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: That Council designate two members of City Council to serve on OCTA Policy Committee.
