Bahorski, City Manager FROM: Ross Pounds, Interim Director Parks, Recreation and Community Services SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDS FOR THE ROBERTI Z'BERG- HARRIS BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM UNDER THE SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN WATER, CLEAN AIR, AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2000 SUMMARY OF REOUEST: Council to approve the resolution in support of the city's application for Roberti Z'Berg- Haris Block Grant funding. BACKGROUND: In the year 2000, the voters in the State of California responded to the recreational and open -space needs of a growing population and expanding community's by approving the 2000 Bond Act. Each community in the State will receive recreational funding based on its population and a thirty percent (30 %) match in funds. The City will be receiving approximately $79,779 from the Roberti Z'Berg -Hams block grant program. The required 30% match will be $34,191. The City of Seal Beach must apply for the Block Grant funding. The attached resolution begins this important process. Additionally, staff will return to council with a list of projects for this grant funding. Currently, the Park Improvement fund balance is $105,977.27, and with this appropriation will be reduced to $71,786.27.
