DATE: JuneX, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
THRU: John B. Bahorski, City Manager
FROM: Michael F. Sellers, Chief of Police
SUBJECT: After Hours Animal Control Coverage
SUMMARY OF REOUEST:
The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting that the current after hours animal
control coverage contract with the City of Long Beach be maintained.
BACKGROUND:
Commencing in July 2000, the Seal Beach Police Department contracted with the City of
Long Beach for after hours animal control service at $13,000 for 2000 -01. It was
determined to be more cost effective to contract for after hours service with Long Beach
than to pay overtime and on -call pay to existing city personnel. The contract realized
savings that were approximately half the cost. The City has received the appropriate
level of service.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no negative impact. The cost of $13,000 remains the same as for the previous
financial year and is budgeted accordingly.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City's after hours animal control service contract with the City
of Long Beach be maintained for the financial year 2001 -2002 and that City Staff be
directed to sign the Second Amendment to Agreement No. 26745.
