1401 Sandpiper Drive - Seal Beach, California 90740
May 7, 2001
Mayor Patty Campbell
City of Seal Beach
211 8'^ Street
Seal Beach, CA 90740
Dear Mayor Campbell:
The Seal Beach Leo's Club has completed its fourth year of service with over 1500
service hours provided by the members. Members participated in fundraising
activities and participated in numerous service projects including the Recreation
Department's Breakfast with Santa, Springfest,10k Run Support, Founders Day,
McGaugh Carnival, Camp Wilderness Service Project, support of Kids Baseball and
much more. In addition, the club was able to raise more than $6,300 for various
charitable and community projects. Some notable projects and charities they
donated to include: CASA Youth Shelter, Every -15- Minutes Anti Drinking 6 Driving
Program, Seal Beach Skate Park, Seal Beach Tree Committee and the Marina
Center Renovation Project. This exciting youth service organization has 47
members ranging in age from 12 to 17 years old and is a project of the Seal Beach
Host Lions Club.
Of the over 1500 service hours produced by the members, six individuals stood out
as exceptional community servants with over 100 hours each. These six Leo's are:
Keri DaPron, Age 17 Leo District President
153 service hours, 20 projects
Page 2
Dan Rowlands, Age 15
Grant Newton, Age 17
Leo District Treasurer
140 service hours, 17 projects
Seal Beach Leo's President
115 service hours, 19 projects
Matt Mokhtorion, Age 16 Seal Beach Leo's Director
101 service hours, 14 projects
Ben Puig, Age 14 Seal Beach Leo's Director
101 service hours, 12 projects
Adam Denny, Age 13 Seal Beach Leo's Director
100 service hours, 12 projects
For the past few years, the City Council has recognized the club and these Leos
who contributed the most to the community. It would be great to see these
individuals recognized this year for their outstanding community service.
Also, I would like to invite you to the Leo's annual Community Service Night on
Monday, May 21 ". I realize that this is the same night as City Council; however, if
you could say a few words at the beginning of the event at 6:30pm (before
Council), it would mean a lot to the kids and their parents. We are expecting 50 -60
people at this event. Please let me know if you or another Council member might be
able to attend.
Sincerely, 1 '
c5 ott Newton
