Crosswalk at RCW and SBB
The FEIR, Appendix E, Figure 25 fails to address safety issues that are a result of the optional right hand-only turn lane from RCW onto SBB
Students presently cross SBB at this intersection
to catch OCTA transportation to Los Alamitos High School.

To cross SBB at this intersection with dedicated right turn lane, a child, student or pedestrian must:
Hope right-turning traffic sees the pedestrian 25’ away (previously 8’) and will
yield while they look the opposite direction for traffic to clear
Step off the curb without tripping or falling. There is no ADA ramp.
Maneuver through a skewed, split or angled crosswalk
when lane becomes right turn only
Step back onto the curb at the opposite side
Our school children depend on safe crosswalks.

Conclusion and Appeal
If the LA Fitness Center is completed, a dedicated turn lane from RCW onto SBB creates a very dangerous crosswalk for our students and residents of this community. We all deserve safe
crosswalks.
This new hazard is not addressed in the FEIR.
We respectfully request that you reject the certification of the EIR and deny the CUP request. At a minimum, we request that
you direct staff to order a new EIR correcting the many deficiencies we have pointed out, including doing a proper traffic study, as urged by the County of Orange.
