HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem DPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, an estimated 61,000 people in the United States and thousands more worldwide are on the national organ waiting list; and; WHEREAS, on average, 16 people die each day while waiting for an organ and every 16 minutes a new name will be added to the waiting list; and WHEREAS, organ and tissue transplantation offers us the extraordinary opportunity to share with others one of our most precious gifts, the gift of life; and WHEREAS, to address this critical and growing need, Hadassah, the largest women's organization in the United States, has dedicated its energies to raise awareness of the grave need for organ and tissue donors and is encouraging all Americans to become knowledgeable about this issue; and WHEREAS, as we observe National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week, all American's are urged to consider becoming donors by indicating their intention on their driver's license or donor card, and notifying their families and friends of their wish to donate. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Patricia E. Campbell, Mayor ofthe City of Seal Beach, hereby proclaim the week of April 15 - April 21, 2001 as Organ & Tissue Donor Awareness Week in the City of Seal Beach and encourage all citizens concerned with organ donation to join in promoting greater awareness and acceptance of this humanitarian action. As part of their Governing Cabinet commitment to this three -year study program, they agreed to lead a community project Suzanne Appelbaum Lila Barkhordarian and re- integrate into their local communities during their third year. These 10 women, Baveily Ca dedicated to their mission, chosen to raise awareness of the crucial need for organ Georgia Capo n+ g Done Cohen and tissue donation in their local communities. Sherry Cohen Michelle Conwisar Marlene Fields Jeanie Finkelstein This endeavor is supported by Hadassah, the largest women's organization in America, Domino Gilbert Joan Grossman whose membership encourages all Americans to discuss with their families and medical Gem Hinkes professionals, in advance, organ donation and other end -of -life decisions so that more life Rostyn Kantor Helen Klein saving organs will be available to those in need. In this effort to save lives, Hadassah has Julie Kletzman pledged to increase its efforts to raise awareness about the importance of donating organs Samara Millar Fox Alana Sue Nockenson and tissue.
