Bahorski, City Manager FROM: Dan Dorsey, Assistant to the City Manager SUBJECT: PROPOSED RENEWAL OF PARKING METER SERVICE AGREEMENT BETWEEN CITIES OF LONG BEACH AND SEAL BEACH SUMMARY OF REQUEST: Request Council approval to renew a one -year service agreement with City of Long Beach for parking meter maintenance, coin collection and software tracking. BACKGROUND: The City of Long Beach has been retained during the past two years to provide repair and coin collection services to the 76 electronic parking meters in the Main Street municipal parking lots. City of Long Beach and their parking meter technicians continue to comply with all requirements of the previous agreements. Representatives from both cities recently agreed to a one -year renewal of the parking meter service agreement for the period February 1, 2001 to January 31, 2002. Long Beach will provide the following parking meter services: • Coin collection twice per week between March I and October 31; once per week between November 1 and February 28. • Visually inspect each meter on a daily basis (Monday through Friday) for "jam -ups," broken parts, graffiti, etc. • Perform periodic audit services with hand -held data terminal on each meter. • Perform repair services when necessary. The following services are excluded from the service agreement: • If Seal Beach requests services in addition to those already identified, Seal Beach shall pay for parts and labor related to those services, i.e., the actual cost of the parts plus twenty percent (20 %) and labor at the rate of $50.00 per hour. • Seal Beach will provide meter batteries. • Emergency repairs and repairs due to vandalism are not considered "routine maintenance." Agenda Item: �. ip FISCAL IMPACT: City of Long Beach will provide maintenance and collection services for $12,000 during the one -year term of this agreement. This cost for parking meter services is the same amount as the previous year. This appropriation is reflected in the budget as a net value from estimated parking revenues. RECOMMENDATION: City Council approve renewal of the one -year, parking meter service contract and direct staff to execute the agreement between the cities of Long Beach and Seal Beach. Accordingly, please use your discretion regarding the appropriate "date" for adoption of said contract. In addition, per your request, both copies have been notarized.
