DATE: March 12, 2001
TO: Mayor Campbell & Members of the City Council
THRU: John B. Bahorski, City Manager
FROM: Nancy L. Beard, Director
Parks, Recreation and Community Services
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS / AWARD OF
BID FOR THE McGAUGH TENNIS COURT RESURFACING -
SEALANT PROJECT - #001 - 49807 -049
SUMMARY OF REOUEST:
The proposed City Council action will approve the plans and specifications and award bid to
resurface and reseal the McGaugh Tennis Courts to the lowest responsible bidder, California
Surfacing, in the amount of $9,455.00.
The McGaugh tennis courts were budgeted for resurfacing in the 1999 -2000 fiscal year. As the
funds went unspent, due to a backlog of projects, it is requested that the funding be
reappropriated to the current fiscal year. The budgeted amount was $6,000. The additional
$3,455 in funding will come from the Park Fund (Quimby Act dollars) as per Council approval.
The current Park Fund balance is $15,977.
City staff completed the plans and specifications for this project. The City Clerk opened bids
February 28, 2001. The following is a listing of the bidders:
1. California Surfacing
$ 9,455
2. Taylor Tennis Courts
11,250
3. Malibu Pacific Tennis Courts, Inc.
11,450
4. Zaino Tennis Courts, Inc.
19,400
The low bidder, California Surfacing, is properly licensed to do the work and has appropriate
work experience as well as being the lowest responsible bidder for the job.
