"A Little History"
Nine years ago, John Heideman, Director of Music at Grace Community Church,
and Barbara Arnold, Director of Music Ministries at First United Methodist Church,
wanted to do a larger musical performance for Christmas. Each of us had small
choirs so we decided to join together to bring Handel's MESSIAH, Part One to life as
a Festive Fine Arts Event for this community. As the years have progressed, we
have opened the event to anyone in the community from any church, or no church, to
came and join in the performing of this wonderful Baroque Oratorio. Because we now
rent McGaugh Auditorium, hire Professional Vocal Soloists, and The String
Connection Chamber Orchestra Ensemble, we now ask for a donation of $6.00 per
person to cover the costs of the event. The choir members and directors volunteer
their time to bring this outstanding cultural event to life. This year we have had 4
rehearsals, 5 churches from the area are represented, and 54 singers have joined
the choir. Chris Ring is our rehearsal accompanist. The Handbell Quartet of First
United Methodist Church will ring Handbells as people gather for this performance.
In accordance to Handel's wishes, donations for the needy may be given to a
representative. This year the representative will be from the Salvation Army as
you enter the auditorium.
We hope you will join us by attending this event.
THANK YOU !!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS !
