HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 4283 1994-01-10 RESOLUTION NUMBER ~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING THE LEAGUE OF CITIES OPTION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD Of SUPERVISORS I WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach has an important responsibility to work on behalf of its citizens, to preserve and protect their quality of life and to provide economic stimulus for the City on behalf of its citizens; and WHEREAS, it was announced on December 14, 1993 that the Orange County Board of Supervisors has provided a re-use structure for El Toro Marine Corps Air Station which does not include members of the city Council of the City of Seal Beach or any other cities or public members; and WHEREAS, the re-use plan adopted by the Orange County Board of Supervisors would have dire social and economic consequences to Seal Beach as well as other cities in Orange County; and WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the city of Seal Beach that a plan be adopted which would include eleven (11) voting members, five (5) Orange County Supervisors and five (5) City Council members selected by the League of Cities from each one of the supervisorial districts and one at-large public member appointed by the other ten (10) members; and I WHEREAS, the above described option Two would be most beneficial to the City and its citizens in that the above described re-use authority would have no predetermined decision with regard to the re-use of El Toro. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city Council of the city of Seal Beach hereby declared: 1. Opposition to the adoption by the Orange County Board of Supervisors on December 14, 1993 of preferred Option One commonly known as the 5-3-1 Option; and Support for a re-use structure to include eleven (11) voting members, five (5) Orange County Supervisors, five (5) city Council members, and one (1) at-large public member appointed by the other ten (10) members. The five (5) City Council members would be chosen by the Orange county League of Cities with one (1) representative from each of the five (5) supervisorial districts; and 3. Copies of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, the Office of Economic Adjustment, Department of Defense, Department of Navy, the United States Marine Corps, the Orange county Board of Supervisors, legislative representatives in Sacramento, and the local Congressional delegates in Washington. 2.
