RE: Verizon Cell Phone Transmitter at Zoeter Place
We write concerning the Verizon cell phone transmitter at Zoeter field. As
community members and parents of a child at the Under the Rainbow
Preschool (located adjacent to the transmitter), we are concerned that the
transmitter is being allowed to operate without adequate knowledge of
the health risks associated with the radiation emitted from such towers.
Currently there exists evidence of leukemia, cancers and other
degenerative health risks from low dose radiation, such as that which will
be emitted from this tower.
We appreciate that the City Council must balance the need to secure
revenue from projects such as this one, with the inevitable citizen
complaints that come every time a new project is proposed. However, this
neighborhood, and the pre-school in particular, already are bearing a fair
share city "revenue burden" with the adjacent 7-11 and the recent granting
of the liquor license to the Blackboard Bistro.
We request that the City, at minimum, delay activation of the transmitter
until such time as the health risks can be impartially assessed and
presented to the Council. Parenthetically, we believe that the Verizon
representatives are not the appropriate party to make such an assessment.
Please enter this correspondence into the official record of the March 25,
2001, City Council meeting. We regret that we are unable to attend due to
a calendar conflict.
Your attention to this matter is appreciated. Thank-you for your hard work
on behalf of our community.
Sincere

Mr. Shawn Boyd
Councilman
City of Seal Beach, CA
Dear Mr. Boyd,
I am writing you in regards to the Verizon Cell Phone Transmitter tower that was
recently erected at Zoeter Field. As the current President of Sun-N-Fun Creative
Playgroup, I have some concerns regarding the potential health effects that gould result
from the tower's proximity to our pre-school as well as Under the Rainbow both of which
are located in the old Zoeter School building.
Admittedly, I have only heard one side of the story— that these microwave-iadiating
towers are responsible for many maladies. I just want to be assured that steps were taken
(or will be) to ensure the safety of the children that attend these two pre-schdols in
regards to the transmission tower so that I may, in turn, assure our school parents.
I realize the importance of the towers— Old Town Seal Beach is in need of better cellular
phone reception. However, if there are health risks involved, especially wig' children,
they need to take precedence over dropped calls and poor cell phone signals;
Please note our concern, and contact me regarding this issue at your earliest:convenience.
Thank you.
Sinc ,
