First, we would like to acknowledge our various other department chairs, the members of the executive committee, committee members, along with current and former City staff who worked very hard to make our Centennial and ultimately these funds available. In discussing issues with many stakeholders personally and via various other tools, we have come to the following recommendations: I. It would be best if the entire fund is used for a single project or two. The amount of money is such that if applied tojust one or two projects, the change may be meaningful. Further dilution would not yield optimal results. 2. We felt that an "even distribution" across the districts misses the point of the Centennial funds intent, which was to produce a change which could have a plaque or be commemorated in some way. 3. The number of projects outlined in the Parks Master Plan are large and varied. Existing project plans likely provide sufficient choice without having to brainstorm more. 4. Projects which are utilized by many citizens, visitors, non-profit groups, and the City would be preferable. 5. The above reasons were informed by the key Vision Statement and Values as seen on this document and were agreed to by both the Executive and Centennial Committees. The following seemed to fit the recommendations above, in no particular order. Improvements for water, electrification, and further restoration of the Centennial Cottage (little blue house) by the Mary Wilson Library & Senior Center on Electric Ave. Significant improvements at the Marina Center building to add AV equipment, redo the kitchen, improve sliding doors, restrooms and all storage areas. Appropriate durable equipment replacement and repair including HVAC, Flooring, lighting, and other factors to improve its functionality and use. Improvements at Marina Park: the outdoor play area, tennis, racquetball and basketball courts and areas could all be enhanced with additional amenities, lighting, new structures, water fountains, and repair of existing. Significant improvement of Gum Grove Park to add fitness amenities, more hydration (water fountain) areas, interpretive centers and safety improvements for pets and children. Again, these are some of the ideas we came up with. Undoubtedly other members of leadership for the Centennial may have more thoughts and ideas on how the money is spent. We wanted to first outline some criteria and then provide some examples for your consideration. Thank you and we are available for any questions via phone or email. Sincerely, Seth A.
