HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 4371 1995-04-24 I I I RESOLUTION NUMBER ~'7/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH SUPPORTING THE CONTINUANCE OF THE PROVIDING OF FEDERAL IMPACT AID TO THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT PROVIDING EDUCATION FACILITIES AND SERVICES FOR CHILDREN OF MILITARY PERSONNEL WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE LOS ALAMITOS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WHEREAS, the United States Government has recognized for many years its role in the funding of educational facilities and services for the benefit of military dependent children in and around the various military posts located over the country through the providing of Impact Aid to those school districts providing primary and secondary education to those children; and WHEREAS, Los Alamitos Unified School District has a student military enrollment of over 300 students; and WHEREAS, the Los Alamitos Unified School District receives no local taxes from either the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station or the Los Alamitos Air Base, and the District is conunitted to providing quality education to military dependent children and all other children residing with the boundaries of the District, and; WHEREAS, the Impact Aid received from the United States Government provides a significant source of funding for the operation of the Los Alamitos Unified School District in its pursuit of providing a quality education to the military dependent children living both on the military bases and in the surrounding communities, and; WHEREAS, the rescission or possible elimination of Impact Aid to School Districts educating the children of our citizen-soldiers is yet an additional unfunded mandate imposed on local government agencies, and; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach wishes to express its support for the continuing efforts of the Los Alamitos Unified School' District and all other affected School Districts to provide the basic and essential quality education facilities and programs for the children in the school district including military dependent children of the United States military personnel assigned to the Los Alamitos Air Station and the Seal Beach Weapons Station and all military posts in the United States, and would request that the United States Congress continue the program of Impact Aid to the affected School Districts as being the most equitable and effective means for the United States Government to involve itself in the educational progress of military dependent children of those men and women serving their country in the Armed Services.
