October 3 -9, 2004
WHEREAS, the week of October 3 -9 has been designated as Fire Prevention Week by
the National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs;
and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week is designed to focus attention on fire prevention
services, such as inspections of businesses, schools, hospitals and rest homes, pre -fire
planning of commercial and industrial facilities; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week emphasizes the importance of increasing public
awareness on the dangers of fire through fire safety education, and focuses on the wide
range of fire prevention community education programs available and presented year
round;and
WHEREAS, this year's theme, "Test Your Smoke Alarms!" underscores a simple lesson.
Because fire can grow and spread so quickly, you may have as few as two minutes to

provides an early warning for a fast escape; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Fire Authority is recognizing Fire Prevention Week by
conducting an OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, October 9, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at a
fire station in each community where residents can meet their firefighters, tour the
stations and receive fire safety and fire prevention materials.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Seal Beach does hereby
declare the week of October 3 -9 as Fire Prevention Week, and urges all its citizens to visit
one of the Orange County Fire Authority fire stations on Saturday, October 9; 2004 to
become better acquainted with their fire department and its fire prevention services.
