Beard, Director of Parks, Recreation & Community Services SUBJECT: Beach Trash Receptacle Advertising SUMMARY OF REQUEST: Council to review and approve the new advertising on the beach trash receptacles. BACKROUND: A new sponsor, Gatorade, has been attained by the Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation for the trash receptacles located on the beach. The new advertising artwork is presented for Council approval. A mock up of the add is presented for Council review The City will begin its second year of the five-year commitment to Adopt A Highway Corporation on July 1, 1999. The contract includes a guarantee of 125 trash receptacles valued at $4,375. In addition to the donation of the cans the City receives $2,000 each year for the duration of the contract. As per the agreement, Council may at their discretion refuse an advertisement, which is injurious or harmful to its business, its reputation or public image or prone to impair the confidence of patrons of Orange Coast Beaches. If that situation takes place the contractor, Adopt A Highway Corporation, has the right to meet with the City to resolve any disagreement. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact to the current budget. The value to the city in this current fiscal year as a result of this marketing program is $6,373. OPTIONS: 1. Council may approve the current advertising. 2. Council may refuse the current advertising and work with Adopt A Highway Cooperation on guidelines for future acceptable advertising as per the current agreement. NOTED APPROVED: Nanc L.
