HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem CMEMORANDUM Date: January6, 1998 To: Mayor Pro -Tem Campbell and Council Members Keith Till, City Manager From: Shawn Boyd, Council Member Subject: Chamber of Commerce Request for Financial Support Please find attached the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce tourism/visitors brochure. I am requesting your support to provide the Chamber with a financial consideration to assist in offsetting the cost of this piece. The "Hidden Treasure" brochure is currently being distributed and will be displayed at more than 320 hotels and tourist locations regionally. The intent is to attract day tourism to our city, increasing revenues without creating significant impacts on our residents or municipal services. I am requesting you consider a contribution of $2,500. Given this wasn't budgeted for FY 98/99, a suggestion would be to express our intent to the Chamber of Commerce at this time and deliver the funds beginning fiscal year 1999/2000. Secondly, I would appreciate your support in directing staff to design and construct a wooden kiosk type sign to encase a map of Old Town for installation on the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. The "kiosk" would be placed on the base immediately adjacent to the gangway where Navy ships in port allow their crews liberty. Currently no directional signage indicates the banking services, restaurants or shops located in Old Town for our Navy visitors to patronize. Keith and 1 have spoken to Captain Bernitt and he heartily embraced the concept. Projected costs would be less than $600. Please let me know if you have any questions, I have asked these matters be placed on the Council agenda for January 11, 1999. Thank you for your consideration. /sb AGENDA ITEM C
