Till, City Manager SUBJECT: Wages and Benefits for Certain Positions SUMMARY OF REQUEST: That Council adopt a resolution setting salaries for the position of Assistant Planner and Associate Planner. BACKGROUND: The City has been recruiting to fill the position of Associate Planner in the Development Services Department. The recruitment advertisement indicated the City would consider an Assistant Planner(with less experience) or an Associate Planner dependent upon the qualifications of the interested applicants. As the first recruitment yielded little response, the process has now been extended with the salaries of both positions advertised as under review. A survey of comparable cities indicates that the Associate Planner salary is too low to attract qualified candidates. It is recommended that the Associate Planner position be increased by 10% and the salary for the Assistant Planner be set for 15% below. FISCAL IMPACT: Increases to be funded by salary savings through vacant Associate Planner position. Impact will not be realized for 2-3 years as new employee will start at a lower pay range. RECOMMENDED ACTION That City Council adopt the attached setting salary and benefits for Assistant Planner and Associate Planner position. Agenda Item /V
