City Council Members:
At the December 15, 1998, meeting of the West Orange County Water Board, a
resolution was presented at the request of the Water Advisory Committee of Orange
County (WACO) urging the governor and legislature to ban the use of methyl tertiary-
butyl ether(MTBE) as an additive to gasoline. At that time the Board deferred action on
the resolution and requested that a copy be sent to each of the member cities so that it
could be considered first by the respective Councils. That resolution is enclosed for your
reference.
It is anticipated that a similar resolution will be presented to the Huntington Beach City
Council in February. If your Council chooses to adopt a similar resolution,please contact
Senior Analyst Ken Dills so that this item can be placed on the next West Orange County
Water Board agenda. Should you have any questions, please contact Ken at 375-5055.

burden of expensive treatment costs when the problem could be stopped at the source;
and
WHEREAS, WOCWB believes that coordinated statewide as well as industry-

the agencies and customers who rely on a safe and reliable drinking water source.
