Re: Submarine Veterans of World War II Memorial
The Submarine Veterans of World War 11 have constructed a memorial on the Naval
Weapons Facility, Seal Beach to honor their shipmates who gave their lives in U.S.
submarines during World War II. The memorial contains 52 bronze plaques
representing each of the submarines used in WWII and lists the 3,506 officers and
enlisted men who lost their lives in defense of the United States of America. The
memorial is revered by the remaining crew members and is visited by friends and family
members on Veterans and Memorial Day.
The Submarine Veterans are making application to the Orange County Historical
Commission and to the California Office of Historic Preservation to designate this
memorial as an historical site within the City of Seal Beach. This effort has our
wholehearted support. To promote and preserve the memory and recognition of these
veterans is well deserved.
On behalf of the City Council of Seal Beach, 1 ask your support of this effort to designate
the U.S. Submarines Veterans Memorial as a County, City and National Historical Site.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Yost

I am a member of the L.A.Area Chapter Submarine Veterans of WWII. We maintain a
memorial at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. There are plaques for the 52 submarines
with the names of the crews lost in WWII. This is a unique site in all of California that honors
the sacrifice of the 3,506 officers and enlisted men who are on eternal patrol defending the United
States of America. Our goal is to designate this memorial as a Historical Site with the city,
county, state, and national registries. Would you please support our effort when we submit our
application to the Orange County Historical Commission and to the California Office of Historic
Preservation?A letter from you with your endorsement would help our chances to promote and
preserve the memory and recognition these and all veterans deserve. Thank you.
Sincere Regards,
