Till, City Manager SUBJECT: Supplemental Health Insurance SUMMARY OF REQUEST: City Council to approve additional health insurance benefits for a service retirement for a 35 year employee. BACKGROUND: Under the terms and conditions of employment for the Confidential, Supervisory, Professional and Technical Employees, health insurance benefits continue up to a cap of $355 per month for an employee retiring who has been with the City for 30 or more years of service. Service retirements after 35 years warrant additional recognition for dedicated and loyal service to the City. The initial cost would be an additional $47 per month not to exceed $175 per month in additional contributions until Medicare begins at age 65 with lower supplemental insurance rates. This additional benefit, upon City Council approval, would apply solely to a 35 year employee, Bob Harris, who has announced a service retirement effective May 11, 1999. Agenda Item I
