Unfortunately, we were unable to save the Stanton House at First and Ocean. The salvage of the Krenwinkle House seemed unlikely, and most recently the Proctor House appeared to be a lost cause as well. Recently, however, Mr. Chris Verhulst, a general contractor, presented to the Board of the Historical Society an interesting proposal for saving not only the Krenwinkle House but the Proctor House too! He proposes to move them to a vacant property in Old Town and remodel them into a bed and breakfast. Mr. Dave Bartlet, who represents Hellman Development, is working on this endeavor in cooperation with Mr.Verhulst and is supportive of this project. The proposal presented to the Board would require variances in order to conform to the parking and the Aid-to-the-Disabled requirements of the Seal Beach City Code. The Board considered these and agreed that they would be reasonable exceptions. The Board of the Seal Beach Historical Society is unanimous in it's support of Mr. Verhulst's plans for the Krenwinkle and Proctor houses. It is hoped that the City shares our concern for preserving these historic buildings and will grant the variances required. Thank you S. ely, L Laura Alioto Seal Beach Historical and Cultural Society cc: Paul Yost, Mayor, Lee Whittenberg, Director of Developmental Services, Chris Vulhurst, Owner/Builder, Dave Bartlet, Hellman Development POST OFFICE BOX 152, SEAL BEACH, CA 90740 • (562) 683-1874 A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
