AGENDA REPORT
To: Mayor Campbell and Members of the City Council
Attention: Keith Till, City Manager
From: Dan Dorsey, Assistant to the City Manager
Subject: FUNDING FROM CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF
CONSERVATION — PROMOTING BEVERAGE CONTAINER
RECYCLING AND LITTER REDUCTION
SUMMARY OF REQUEST
Approval of the attached resolution would authorize annual funding from California Department
of Conservation to the City of Seal Beach in order to promote beverage container recycling as
well as litter reduction.
BACKGROUND
The California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act was amended last year in
order to authorize the distribution of $10.5 million dollars to eligible cities and counties to
promote beverage container recycling and litter clean-up activities. The amount of funding is
based upon the population of each jurisdiction. This program will be renewed with each
participating city on an annual basis.
City of Seal Beach could utilize this funding to purchase additional trash and recycling
containers--especially for special event activities--as well as trash bags and gloves for volunteers
who participate in organized efforts to remove debris from parks and beaches.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City of Seal Beach is eligible to receive $7,951.00 from the California Department of
Conservation during Fiscal Year 2000—2001.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council approve attached resolution and authorize City Manager to submit Funding Request
Form to California Department of Conservation.
