Sellers, Chief of Police Subject: PURCHASE OF FLEXIBLE FUEL VEHICLE SUMMARY OF REQUEST The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting permission to purchase a model year 2000, Ford Taurus, flexible fuel, undercover police vehicle. The funding for this purchase will be accomplished with grant funds from the Air Quality Management District. BACKGROUND The police department is in need of a replacement vehicle for the 1988 Jeep they are presently using. The vehicle has over 70,000 usage miles and during the 1991 flooding in Leisure World it was submerged under water. There was major damage to the vehicles interior and wiring, and despite attempts by City Yard to repair the vehicle it has never performed properly since. FISCAL IMPACT The cost for the vehicle is $17,685.33, with undercover emergency equipment costs of$2,469.90, which totals $20,155.23. The tax will be $1,662.81, with a total cost for the vehicle and equipment of$21,818.04 At this time there are grant funds available to the City of Seal Beach through the Air Quality Management District which will cover the entire cost of the vehicle. The vehicle will meet the criteria for this funding, as it is an approved "flexible fuel vehicle." The city account, which contains this funding, is Fund 12, Account 49600, Department 30.
