Subject: PURCHASE OF FLEXIBLE FUEL VEHICLE
SUMMARY OF REQUEST
The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting permission to purchase a model year
2000, Ford Taurus, flexible fuel, undercover police vehicle. The funding for this
purchase will be accomplished with grant funds from the Air Quality Management
District.
BACKGROUND
The police department is in need of a replacement vehicle for the 1988 Jeep they are
presently using. The vehicle has over 70,000 usage miles and during the 1991 flooding
in Leisure World it was submerged under water. There was major damage to the vehicles
interior and wiring, and despite attempts by City Yard to repair the vehicle it has never
performed properly since.
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost for the vehicle is $17,685.33, with undercover emergency equipment
costs of$2,469.90, which totals $20,155.23. The tax will be $1,662.81, with a
total cost for the vehicle and equipment of$21,818.04
At this time there are grant funds available to the City of Seal Beach through the
Air Quality Management District which will cover the entire cost of the vehicle.
The vehicle will meet the criteria for this funding, as it is an approved "flexible fuel
vehicle."
The city account, which contains this funding, is Fund 12, Account 49600,
Department 30.
