STAFF REPORT
To: Mayor Yost and Members of the City Council
Attention: Keith R. Till, City Manager
From: Stephen G. Badum, Director of Public Works/City Engineer
Subject: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE
SEAL BEACH PIER CONCRETE REHABILITATION,
PROJECT NO. 715
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The proposed City Council action will approve the plans and specifications, and authorize Staff to
initiate the bidding process so that a contract may be awarded for the Seal Beach Pier Concrete
Rehabilitation, Project No. 715.
DISCUSSION:
This proposed project would rehabilitate areas of the concrete pier. This would include removing
all of the delaminated concrete, sandblasting the exposed reinforcement, placing a corrosion
"arrester" (for example, an epoxy coating on the rebar), and placing a new concrete patch. City
crews would then paint over the patched concrete once the project was completed. •
The plans and specifications were completed and the project is estimated to cost $50,000
including construction, administration, and inspection. Upon the successful bidding process and
award of a contract, the project should be completed in February.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Tideland funds are currently available within the City's Capital Improvement program budget to
construct these improvements as a part of the Pier Structural Inspection/Repair Program.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the plans and specifications, authorize staff to
initiate the public contract bidding process.
