Dear Shawn,
We are opposed to the plan for the DWP property at the corner of Marina Drive and 1st
Street in Seal Beach.
We mistakenly assumed that there were no hardfast decisions as yet, and that the final
conclusions would come after more soul searching. The impact on the surrounding area
would be disasterous, i.e., traffic, noise, strangers, and most of all a large commercial
facility in the RESIDENTIAL neighborhood.
Upscale, single family, houses on the DWP property would be the answer. The occupants
could make use of downtown (more revenue), and would also be an asset to the residential
area.
As you know, our home is on Central Avenue, and the enormous problem we face daily with
the already present traffic would be compounded tenfold.
We are proud of OUR Central avenue. The flags fly, we paint our homes, grow flowers for
everyone to enjoy, and love our children. All of this adds up to what the All-American
neighborhood should be.
PLEASE DON'T FORCE US TO CHANGE OUR WAYS
Sincerely,

The City Council and the Planning Commission in 1982 decided that the
DWP property, at the corner of Marina Drive and 1' Street should be a hotel and an
open area park.
The idea of a park may sound good, until you consider what a park draws to
the community. This is not developed playing fields or recreational use like tennis
courts or basketball courts, this is just park space. The City cannot afford to build
nor can we afford to properly maintain another park.
Both the park and hotel mean high traffic and increased movement of transient
non-resident individuals. This increases the need for police security and the
likelihood of unwanted problems in our community.
We don't want to see these types of high volume, high traffic projects in our
front yard. Do you? It's obvious that the proposed projects would not only
increase the traffic and crime problems, but they will also reduce our property
values. i
Please contact City Hall, the City Manager, the Planning
Commission and your council member, to let them know that
you would favor some low density non-commercial
development of the land that would improve the community
standard and preserve or increase the property values. Before
it's too late. The City Manager is meeting Monday
November 22, 1999 to determine your fate.

Mr. Lee Whittenberg
Planning Department Director
City Hall
Seal Beach, CA 90740
Dear Mr. Whittenberg,
We are the happy home owners of the house at 100 First Street. During the past few
weeks we have been asked to sign a petition and then had a flyer left at our doorstep
asking ue to support "low density non-commercial development" on the vacant property
west of First Street. When we purchased our house almost 2 years ago, we were assured
that the area across the street would become a park. We are now urging you to follow
through with that plan. While a park would serve all the residents of Seal Beach, more
homes would benefit only a few lucky folks who can afford them. New housing
developments put an additional strain on city streets and services, thus reducing the
quality of life for everyone. We are witness to a constant parade of people running,
walking, biking, and rollerblading in front of our house. They use the street and the
parking lot and then the bike path by the river. It is apparent to us that a park here is
clearly needed. kt.
We are enclosing a copy of the flyer we received yesterday. Notice that the flyer contains
no mention of sponsorship. When we questioned the petitioner who knocked on our
door recently, he refused to tell us who was employing him. We urge you to listen to the
people who live in this area, not some anonymous lobbyists whom we can only assume
have some self interest in mind.
Thank you for considering our point of view.
Sincerely,
/7/14t, vi I 04/1 (--J
