AGENDA REPORT
•
TO: Mayor Yost and Members of the City Council
FROM: Nancy L. Beard, Director of Parks, Recreation&
Community Services
SUBJECT: TREES FOR THE MILLENNIUM GRANT PROGRAM
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Approve resolution making application for Trees for Millennium Grant for FY 2000/01.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Seal Beach is applying for a $48,480 tree-planting grant made available through the
Urban and Community Forestry Program and the California Department of Forestry&Fire
Protection. If successful, the grant will fund the planting of 674 fifteen-gallon trees in the city's
parkways over a one-year period.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City will be responsible for matching funds of$26,960. The City's annual tree allocation is
$25,000. The current 1999-2000 annual budget will not be affected. The request for funds for
fiscal year 2000-2001 may be slightly increased. The City's return on the funding request will
close to double the amount of trees we would be able to plant without the grant.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve attached resolution making application for Trees for Millennium Grant under the
California Department of Forestry&Fire Protection.
