FTTfTTTTTTT WHEREAS, the U.S. Postal Service plays an important role in
_ _'-31 portraying the American experience to a world
fri audience through the issuance of postage stamps and
stationery with nearly all of the subjects chosen
i suggested by the American public; and
WHEREAS, the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, whose
members reflect a wide range of educational,
artistic, historical and professional expertise, was
j . • established in 1957 and appointed by the
Postmaster General, and assist in the selection of
commemorative stamps and stationery as well as
respond to the 30,000 suggestions for new stamps
received annually; and
WHEREAS, every half century, events and themes of widespread national appeal and
significance are considered for commemoration and the United States
Postal Service in cooperation with. the Seal Beach Historical Society and
the City of Seal Beach are honored to participate in the unveiling of its
new "ALL ABOARD" commemorative stamps featuring American
passenger trains of the 1930's and 1940's; and
WHEREAS, these stamps feature original watercolor illustrations o ffive Art Deco-
style passenger trains: the "Daylight," the "Congressional," the "20th
Century Limited,"' the "Hiawatha" and the "Super Chief'; and recall the
heritage of our railroads and the partnership between the Postal Service
and the railroad industry in binding the nation together through
communications and transportation; and
WHEREAS, to mark this event, there will be a special philatelic cancellation of the
stamp and,.in addition to the "All Aboard" stamps, a special pictorial
postmark.will be available at the Red Car Museum on the date of
unveiling. .
NOW THEREFORE, I, PAUL YOST, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, do
hereby proclaim the day of August 27, 1999 as
Red Car Day in the City of Seal Beach
and encourage all citizens to attend the commemorative stamp unveiling at the Red Car
Museum on August 27, 1999.
IN WITNESS, WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City
of Seal Beach to be affixed this Twenty-seventh Day of August, Nineteen Hundred and
Ninety-nine.
