Badum, Director of Public Works/City Engineer Subject: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF PIER WATERLINE REPLACEMENT, PROJECT NO. 735 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The proposed City Council action will award a contract for: the construction of the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735 to the lowest responsible bidder, Atlas-Allied, Inc., in the amount of $56,800.00 and authorize the City Manager to execute same. DISCUSSION On June 28, 1999, City Council approved plans and specifications for the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735. The proposed project will construct a replacement eight inch waterline. This waterline provides for domestic water and fire service for the new restrooms and the pier. The project includes piping from the 12" water main in Ocean Avenue to the connection to the service line under the pier. A reference check for Atlas Allied, Inc. revealed that they have successfully performed similar work for several public agencies within the area. City staff recommends that the construction contract for the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735, be awarded to Atlas-Allied, Inc. in the amount of $56,800.00. 1 AGENDA ITEM L. 1► W Pier Waterline Replacement City Council Staff Report August 23, 1999 Management and inspection of the construction will be performed by the City's Public Works contract engineering and inspection staff. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735 are currently within the City's Capital Improvement Program budget under the Pier Waterline Replacement and the Water Infrastructure Replacement Program accounts. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council : 1. Award a contract for the construction of the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735 to the lowest responsible bidder, Atlas-Allied, Inc., in the amount of$56,800.00; and 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for the Pier Waterline Replacement, Project #735.
