HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - Interval House 0 41kir; ;IA Cil' of O O f• • r'�...t(., (NIIIIINIkr ea ( Reach . �. • ;406 - SThteofCahforn,a Alt ow:. o in • ciptl) 0 6 k rt, (470 ft, J INTERVAL HOUSE 40TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, Interval House, which opened its doors in the City of Seal Beach in 1979 is celebrating its 40th Anniversary as the most highly recognized and innovative domestic violence program in the country; and WHEREAS, Interval House has brought honor to the City of Seal Beach, having received over 500 of our nation's most prestigious awards, including five U.S. Presidential Awards, five California Governor's awards, and a U.S. Department of Justice Award citing Interval House as a "model" program to the nation; and WHEREAS, Interval House is the nation's first survivor-led program, distinguished by its unprecedented philosophy of inclusion and empowerment that has inspired award-winning leadership and historic longevity among staff, 98% of whom are multilingual, culturally diverse and have been personally affected by domestic violence; and WHEREAS, Interval House was the first domestic violence agency to develop specialized programs for the underserved Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, Slavic, African American, and teen communities, and is today the only domestic violence program providing all services in over 70 languages in-house, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and WHEREAS, Interval House opened the nation's first transitional shelter program for victims of domestic violence and their children in 1980, is among the nation's leading providers of rental assistance for homeless families, cited by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a "model" housing program; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the City of Seal Beach City Council does hereby recognize Interval House on the celebration of its 40th anniversary, for its critical leadership role in the domestic violence and homelessness fields, and for the vital role it has played in improving the quality of life for residents of Seal Beach. The Council extends best wishes for continues success in the future.
