Mayor Sustarsic and City Council Members: Regarding the closure of the community garden We are all trying to do our part in these difficult times to protect everyone from being exposed to the virulent virus creating the pandemic. The closure of the community garden is a bit different than closing the pier or the beaches. It is a quasi privatized area requiring a lock code and an executed agreement with a payment to manage a plot of land for the explicit purpose of gardening. The plots of land are separated and even on busy days when there are maybe 7 cars parked in the lot inside the gate, people are disbursed and not in contact with one another. The few areas where people may make contact with anything accessible to others are: the lock on the entry gate, the gate itself as it is opened, a water spigot, a hose, and a wheelbarrow handle. Gardeners bring their own tools with them. The gardeners are all careful and caring people. The access to the gardens is important for many reasons including: a food source, physical exercise, and just the joy and enjoyment of seeing things being grown providing mental wellbeing. Please reconsider the closure of the garden, allow people to continue to use the garden with guidelines: maintain 6 or more feet of separation at all times, wear disposable gloves while touching the combination lock, gate, hose bibs and hoses, and wheelbarrows. Use hand sanitizer before entering the garden and after you depart. If you are ill or not feeling well stay home. (Please add other conditions as are required to meet state, county and city guidelines) Your attention to this issue is appreciated, Elaine Murphy 400 Corsair Way, Seal Beach, CA 90740 240-216-7005 Emurphykane@hotmail.com 2 Get Outlook for iOS CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization.
